Last night’s Love, Scarborough Innovation Dinner, hosted by the Scarborough Health Network Foundation, was more than just a gathering of healthcare leaders. It was a clear signal that the future of healthcare in Scarborough is being actively reshaped through collaboration, investment, and bold vision.
Scarborough is home to one of the most diverse and fastest-growing populations in Canada, serving over 850,000 residents. Yet for decades, the region has faced systemic underinvestment in healthcare infrastructure. The Love, Scarborough campaign is changing that narrative, mobilizing funding and awareness to support modern facilities, advanced research, and improved access to care.
What stood out most throughout the evening was a shared commitment to building a healthcare system that is not only larger, but smarter, more equitable, and future-ready.

One of the most exciting groups contributing to this evolution is Afiya Spine & Pain Institute.
Led by Dr. Zameer Pirani, Afiya has quickly established itself as a leader in interventional pain management across Ontario. With existing locations in downtown Toronto and Hamilton, the organization has built a reputation for delivering highly specialized, evidence-based treatments that go beyond traditional pain clinic models.
Afiya’s approach is rooted in precision medicine. Rather than relying solely on generalized pain management strategies, their team focuses on targeted, minimally invasive interventions that are guided by the latest clinical research and best practices. This includes advanced diagnostic techniques and interventional procedures designed to treat the source of pain, not just manage symptoms.

In partnership with Scarborough Health Network, Afiya is now bringing this model of care to Scarborough with the development of a new interventional pain clinic.
